Hillmount House Wedding - Jayne and Ross
Jayne and Ross got married on a perfect late summer day last year at beautiful Hillmount House. It was a day filled with fun and laughter. I asked them a bit about how they planned the day and any tips for other couples. Check out their fabulous day and list of great suppliers!
What was important to you when planning your wedding day?: We wanted to make sure that our day reflected us properly - so many people feel under pressure to do weddings the “traditional” way to please family or friends. We’d already been together for 10 years and wanted to ensure we stayed true to us - loving, silly, fun and spontaneous! Finding Hillmount House made it easy from the start!
Tell us about some of the little details that made up your day.: We didn’t have a theme per sé but a lot of it came down to the colours. I knew I wanted sunflowers in my bouquet and so that was my starting point. Getting married outside was a goal - a big ask with NI weather but somehow we managed to get a perfect sunny day. The floral arch we had constructed was the most beautiful thing and looking at the photos of it still take my breath away. My engagement ring was rose gold so we asked our stylist to tie that in to the decorations in the barn for the reception (it was perfect!). The rest of it was about trying to keep it about us and our friends and family! I made our table plan, a friend did our wedding stationery and place cards, the groom and his groomsman made a donut wall from scratch! There were lots of little things that made it feel so much more special because we had put time into creating a personal touch.
What was your favourite part of your day?: The whole day! I couldn’t pick just one part. Everyone who was involved in making it run so perfectly made me feel much more relaxed. I was quite a chill bride anyway and wasn’t worried in the lead up but I couldn’t have been in better hands anyway. Getting married at Hillmount was just a dream come true. The owners Andrew and Simon have an ability to make people feel so welcome, I didn’t want to leave! I loved coming into the barn after getting some photos taken and just seeing everyone we love enjoying themselves and all my plans coming to life.
Any funny or unexpected moments you want to share?:Karaoke at the reception was a hilarious highlight - only a handful of people knew a drag queen was going to be hosting it, we enjoyed surprising people with it all!
What would your top tip be to any couples planning their wedding day?:Just remember it’s about the two of you. Do whatever you want to do. Your friends and family will love it more, rather than if you just try to emulate what looked nice on Pinterest - trust me!
It does go really fast - a lot of people say they don’t want to spend ages getting photos taken but you’ll want the memories. Also get a videographer to capture it on film - I wasn’t going to, but Fiona captured all the wonderful moments I missed!
Any particular advice for couples about the photography part of the day?:Do a pre-shoot in order to get comfortable with the photographer! And you’ll not be able to stop smiling on the day so it’ll be easy. Brides - make sure to keep eyelash glue and other make up essentials handy in case you need a touch up in between photos.
Any other comments you'd like to share.: We loved having Lynn and her fab husband Jonathan take our wedding photos. They made us feel so relaxed and they did the most beautiful job. Good wedding photography is worth the money!
